Pivotal is designed with privacy as its core principle. We believe your productivity data is yours alone, and we've built Pivotal to ensure it stays that way.
In simple terms: We don't collect, store, transmit, or analyze any of your personal data or usage patterns.
What We Don't Do
No Analytics or Tracking
We don't use any analytics services, tracking pixels, or telemetry to monitor how you use Pivotal.
No Data Collection
We don't collect personal information, usage statistics, or any data about your workspaces.
No Personal Data Transmission
Pivotal doesn't send any personal data, usage patterns, or workspace information to external servers.
No Tracking Integrations
We don't integrate with analytics platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers for tracking purposes.
What Data Stays Local
Pivotal stores the following information locally on your Mac to provide its functionality:
Workspace Configurations
Names, app selections, file paths, and website URLs you've configured for your workspaces.
Window Layout Preferences
Window positions, sizes, and display arrangements for your saved layouts.
Application Preferences
Settings you've configured within Pivotal, such as launch options and display preferences.
Important:
All this data is stored exclusively in macOS standard application support directories on your local machine. It never leaves your device.
Limited Network Usage
While Pivotal operates primarily offline, it does make limited network connections for essential functionality:
License Verification
Purpose: Validates your Pivotal license with Polar.sh servers during activation and periodic checks.
Data transmitted: Your email address (for customer verification), license key, and basic device identifier for activation.
What's NOT sent: No usage patterns, workspace configurations, behavioral information, or other personal data beyond email for license verification.
Anonymous Trial Protection
Purpose: Prevents trial abuse through reinstallation while maintaining your privacy.
Data transmitted: Only an anonymous device identifier (hardware UUID + app bundle ID) to Supabase servers via anonymous authentication.
What's NOT sent: No personal information, email addresses, names, usage patterns, or workspace data. The system cannot identify who you are.
Privacy protection: Uses Supabase Row Level Security policies to ensure data isolation and GDPR compliance.
Future Third-Party Integrations
Future versions of Pivotal may include optional integrations with productivity services (like cloud storage or task management).
Our commitment: Any third-party integrations will be clearly disclosed, optional, and focused on functionality—never tracking or analytics.
Transparency Promise:
We will always be transparent about any network connections Pivotal makes. If we add new integrations, we'll update this policy and notify users about what data is shared and why.
Required Permissions
Pivotal requires only one macOS permission to function properly:
Accessibility Access
Why needed: To detect running applications and manage window positions and sizes for layout management.
What it enables: Pivotal can save and restore your window layouts, detect fullscreen states, and manage multi-monitor setups.
Minimal Permissions:
Unlike many apps, Pivotal only needs Accessibility access. Files and folders you add to workspaces use security-scoped bookmarks, so no additional file system permissions are required.
